Stylocoeniella are a very sensitive SPS coral requiring stable alkalinity, calcium, nutrient levels and full spectrum lower lighting. For feedings, as with most SPS corals, small suspended particulate food will be accepted. Also, thorn corals need higher current and lower lighting which makes them great candidates for semi-shaded reef crevices.
Lighting and Placement
Thorn coral are semi-cryptic low light corals that seem to like a fuller light spectrum. Many times stylos will thrive even in shade or on the back wall of aquariums. As with most SPS, higher flow is a must for stylocoeniella. They should be placed near the bottom of aquariums on rock that they may encrust and cover. Thorn corals are more docile SPS coral. Therefore, take care to keep LPS and other more aggressive corals away.
